Last week we had the pleasure of experimenting with 3D scan data for a week with the creative students of the Architecture department at the University of Nicosia.

The university provides the opportunity for teachers/ professionals to design and deliver an intensive 1 week course to third year architecture students called Catalyst. Students can select between different Catalyst courses in order to develop new skillsets and engage with subjects adjacent or supporting to the their architectural knowledge.

Our students were taught to use 3D scanners, advanced editing software and scanning workflows. They then misused the equipment to develop studies and creative approaches with the emerging medium of reality capture.

Revisiting Kanakaria - one of our earliest complex 3D scans completed in 2020. The site is located in Lythragkomi, Karpasia - in occupied Cyprus.

The church was built around 500-700 AD, a paleo-christian basilica which used to showcase exquisite mosaics.

LiDAR scanning technology was implemented to support the architectural team responsible for developing the basilicas urgent conservation works.
